TOUR OVERVIEW

The 5 Days Marangu Route is one of the oldest and most established trails on Mount Kilimanjaro. Nicknamed the "Coca-Cola Route" for its relative comfort and popularity, this route is perfect for climbers seeking an easier, hut-based trekking experience. Unlike other camping routes, Marangu provides accommodation in mountain huts, making it a preferred choice during the rainy seasons or for those who prioritize sleeping indoors.

  • Distance: 8 km

  • Trekking Time: 4–5 hours

After registration at Marangu Gate, you trek through a dense rainforest alive with blue monkeys and exotic birds. Mandara Hut sits in a forest clearing where trekkers often unwind and explore the nearby Maundi Crater.

Days 2:Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
  • Altitude Gain: 2,720m to 3,720m

  • Distance: 12 km

  • Trekking Time: 6–8 hours

Today’s trail leads you through moorland dotted with giant heather and lobelia. Expect breathtaking views of Mawenzi Peak and a steady climb to Horombo Hut, where acclimatization begins.

Days 3: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

  • Distance: 10 km

You pass the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo an arid alpine desert zone. The air is thinner, and the path is dustier. Arrival at Kibo Hut is early, allowing time for rest before the summit attempt.

Days 4: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak and Back to Horombo Hut
  • Altitude Gain: 4,703m to 5,895m, then descent to 3,720m

  • Distance: 22 km

  • Trekking Time: 12–15 hours

Summit night begins at midnight. A long, steep ascent through scree leads to Gillman’s Point, and then on to Uhuru Peak, Africa’s highest point. After photos and celebrations, descend back to Horombo Hut for the night.

Days 5: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate
  • Altitude Loss: 3,720m to 1,870m

  • Distance: 20 km

  • Trekking Time: 5–7 hours

The final stretch leads back through the rainforest to Marangu Gate, where successful trekkers receive a certificate and say farewell to the crew.
